Why room count alone is not enough

Two homes with three carpeted rooms can involve very different floor areas. Stairs, landings and heavily used entrances add further work, and furniture can limit the accessible space. Send approximate room dimensions, a count of the steps and a description of what can be cleared. A wide photo helps show the layout; close-ups help show problem marks.

Separate general cleaning from specialist concerns

Describe the carpet material if known, its condition and any stain history. An old spill already treated with household products needs a different conversation from general traffic soiling. Explain pet-related issues and whether they may extend beyond the surface. Do not assume stain treatment, odour work or every piece of furniture is included simply because the quote says carpet cleaning.

Include the practical arrangements

Give the full postcode, floor level, stairs or lift access and an unloading arrangement. Mention locked communal entrances and the contact who can provide access. If you are moving out, include the checkout date and when the rooms become available. The cleaning and drying timetable should be workable before the appointment is agreed.

Compare the agreed scope

Check the surfaces included, preparation responsibilities, furniture arrangements, access and drying advice. Ask whether the quote includes the specific stain work you discussed and what result is realistic. An unusually low or high figure is hard to judge without the scope.
